Nestled in the vibrant Sherbrooke Street West corridor of Montreal, Restaurant Mukja is a remarkable Korean dining destination that offers an authentic and richly diverse culinary experience. Specializing in traditional Korean cuisine, Mukja boasts a menu brimming with bold flavors and comforting dishes that expertly balance heat, sweetness, and savory depth.
One of the first things you’ll notice upon sitting down is the warm, inviting atmosphere paired with attentive and genuine service, making every visit feel like a welcoming gathering among friends. The servers’ kindness and dedication shine through, enhancing an already delightful culinary adventure.
Mukja’s menu is a treasure trove of Korean specialties that will excite both newcomers and seasoned fans of Korean food. Standout dishes include the irresistibly chewy jjajangmyun (짜장면) — noodles cloaked in a rich, black bean sauce — and the crispy, double-fried tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) that’s often praised for its perfectly crunchy texture. Their dakgangjung (닭강정), Korean fried chicken with a sweet and spicy glaze, offers a satisfying contrast between tender meat and crackling skin.
Stews and soups here are not just meals but comforting experiences. The short rib soup and the more adventurous wooguhjigook (우거지국), a hearty kale stew, invite you to savor slow-cooked depth and soulful warmth. Unique offerings like the goat stew further underscore Mukja’s dedication to presenting an all-encompassing Korean culinary spectrum. For those seeking lighter bites, the tteokbokki au fromage (cheese tteokbokki) balances a spicy kick with gooey mozzarella, perfect for sharing or indulging solo.
Completing the meal is an array of traditional banchan — small, flavorful side dishes — that tease and complement each bite. Patrons have raved about how these perfectly seasoned sides enrich the overall dining experience.
On the beverage front, Mukja delights with an impressive selection of Korean drinks, from playful fruit-flavored milks like lait de fraise (strawberry milk) and lait de melon (melon milk) to refreshing carbonated sodas and an exquisite range of bubble teas. The bubble teas, in flavors such as coconut, lychee, matcha, and watermelon, have left guests craving more — one particularly memorable mention is the creamy coconut and taro milk tea bursting with chewy pearls that elevate each sip.
The authenticity of Mukja’s flavors has earned heartfelt praise from diners who recognize the genuine roots of the kitchen. One customer returning from South Korea highlighted how Mukja’s recipes truly mirror the tastes found in family-run Seoul eateries, a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality and tradition. Another loyal patron called it “one of the best and tastiest Korean places” they’ve ever visited, noting the heartfelt service and remarkable food.
Whether you’re seeking a comforting bowl of bulgogi (불고기) beef, craving the crispy delight of seafood pancakes, or looking to discover rare Korean delights like stir-fried web octopus and monkfish, Restaurant Mukja invites you to embark on a culinary journey both familiar and uniquely its own. Every dish tells a story of Korea’s rich food heritage, lovingly prepared in a welcoming Montreal setting.
For anyone passionate about exploring Korean flavors beyond the typical, Mukja offers an experience that is soulful, satisfying, and undeniably delicious. The best and tastiest Korean place we've had the joy of going to. The banchan was sooooo tasty, and the servers are very sweet, kind, and put in great effort to making it a pleasant experience. Their coconut and taro milk tea with pearls is TO DIE FOR.
Came back from South Korea and had a craving for cold Naengmyun. This place is run by korean speakers and their recipes reflect their hangul heritage and the taste is very similar to what you can find in a family run restaurant in Seoul
One of the only places for more unique Korean soups and stews. The seafood pancake was very crispy and the tteokbokki rice cakes had a nice sweet and spicy sauce.
One of my fave korean restos in MTL. Their menu is affordable and they have a lot of items that can’t be found in other places such as stir fried web octopus or monk fish.
EDITED 14/11/2025 ISSUE RESOLVED WE DEVOURED THE TANGSUYUK We ordered Tangusuyuk, Chicken Gizzard, Galbitang, and Tteokbokki super delicious and very crispy 23/10/2025 We've been regulars at Mukja since 2023, and we always come back for the tangsuyuk—it’s usually crispy, double-fried, and absolutely delicious. But today (Oct 23rd), the tangsuyuk was disappointingly soggy and clearly not double-fried like usual. We politely asked the waiter to check with the chef, but the manager refused to accommodate the request. The waiter was great as always—friendly and attentive—and the rest of the food was good. But the tangsuyuk is the main reason we come here, and this experience was a letdown. We’ll only return if the manager addresses this issue. If that happens, I’ll gladly update this review back to 5 stars.
Mukja is the best Korean restaurant I tried in Montreal. We ordered Mool naengmyun with cold broth, Dolsot Bibimbap with beef, and Dakgangjung. They all taste so good. In addition, the portion of each was really big! The young service lady was really nice and helpful. I asked her where to buy the naengmyun noodles and she told me to get it in the Korean supermarket across the street. The restaurant is clean and quiet. I'll definitely dine there again.
Ordered a bowl of soft tofu soup with seafood (soondubu jjigae). Very tasty and filling with the side dishes. Bubble tea comes in a large glass for only $5.99 (or 2 for $10). Excellent food at a reasonable price!
